WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Senator Kit Bond today issued the following statement on President Bush's nomination of Congressman Porter Goss to head the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA):

"Congressman Porter Goss is an excellent choice to head the Central Intelligence Agency. Congressman Goss has the experience and knowledge needed to hit the ground running to begin reforming the agency immediately.

"As a former CIA operative and head of the House Intelligence Committee, Congressman Goss has already been on the front lines of our intelligence community and in the forefront of efforts to strengthen our human intelligence capabilities, a critical weapon in the war against terror.

"As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I look forward to working with a man who not only knows the problems America's intelligence agency faces, but more important, knows what will be required to build a better, stronger CIA."
